Super Quick & Easy Bread - Done In 60 Minutes Or Less

You are going to love this bread! It really only takes 60 minutes from start to finish. And, it only costs about $.70 for two loaves! Making homemade bread is one way to save on your finances.

Yes, ONE hour. I know. I know. You are probably thinking, "There is no way that I can make bread in an hour."

I was in the same place as you a few years ago.

My mom used to make homemade bread when I was growing up. I remember it took almost all day long. I used to think, “I don’t have time to make bread. I’m too busy.”

That was before I found this recipe.

Now, when I make bread I typically use this recipe. And it really only takes one hour.

My family loves hot bread fresh out of the oven. If you make it for your neighbors, they will think you slaved for hours to make homemade bread.

I figured out the price once, and it only costs about $.70 for two loaves of bread! Wow! It makes "cents" to make homemade bread!

A few years ago, I wanted to make bread. I had to leave in one hour to pick up my kids at school. I thought, “I am going to time this to see if it really only takes an hour.” I got my ingredients out, mixed it up, and put it in the oven. When I pulled it out of the oven, there was 3 minutes left until I had to pick up kids. It really only took one hour! I was so excited!

A few notes:

  • When you first start making this bread, it might take you longer than an hour. But, the more times you make it, the faster you will get.

  • I make this in my Kitchen-aid mixer, but you could make it by hand or use a Bosch.

  • Do not let the salt touch the yeast, this is because the salt will kill the yeast. So, mix them in separately.

As a recovering food addict, I don’t eat flour anymore. So, when I make this bread, I will feed it to my kids, or to give to a neighbor in need.

Super Quick & Easy Bread Recipe

From start to finish in 1 hour

Makes 3 loaves of bread


Preheat oven to 200`

In a mixing bowl, mix your dry ingredients together:

7 1/2 cups flour (can use ground whole wheat, bread flour or all-purpose)

1 1/2 teaspoon salt (don’t let it touch the yeast)

1 heaping tablespoon SAF Instant Yeast

1/2 cup sugar or honey (if you are using honey, wait to put it in until you mix in wet ingredients)

After that is mixed well, then add:

Honey, if you are using it instead of sugar

1/4 cup vegetable or olive oil

3 cups of hot water (as hot as your tap will allow)

Mix to check consistency. Dough should clean itself off the sides of the bowl. Add more water or flour if needed. Click here to find out how to make sure your dough is the right consistency. When it cleans itself off the sides of the bowl, mix on low for about 5 minutes.

Do not use flour on your counter to roll out dough. Use non-stick cooking to spray the counter, your hands and three bread pans. Remove dough from the mixing bowl and hand knead to remove air pockets.

Spray a large knife with non-stick cooking spray. Cut the dough (do not tear it) into three equal parts. Shape into loaves and place into the loaf pans. Place pans into the warm oven to rise for 15-18 minutes, or until double in size. Turn the oven up to 350` and bake for 22-28 minutes, until golden brown. YUM!

BONUS: This recipe is really versatile.

You can make variations of this bread into things like: cinnamon rolls, pizza dough, calzones, scones, rolls, hotdog buns, hamburger buns, stuffed braided dinners, soup bowls, french bread, breadsticks, individual pizzas, grilled pizza, orange rolls...the possibilities are endless!

For each large loaf you can create:

  • 4 mini loaves

  • 16 dinner rolls

  • 6 hamburger or hotdog buns

  • 1 pizza crust 2 soup bowls

  • 1 pan of breadsticks

  • 1 stuffed braided dinner (taco, pizza, chicken, etc.)

You can also add ingredients to create different flavors. You could add something like a cup of oats. Or, add a 1/2 cup of sunflower seeds. Or, try adding Italian seasonings and garlic powder. I also like to add some rosemary.

Bonus Recipes

Here are two recipes that you can use with this bread. I make Braided Bread with Raspberry Cream Cheese Filling as a yummy dessert. I love bringing it places where I want my dessert to look really nice. I have brought this to places like bridal showers, church dinners, and company parties.

Braided Bread with Raspberry Cream Cheese Filling

Filling Recipe: Mix together 4 ounces of softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.

You will also need 1 cup raspberry preserves or fresh raspberries.

Mix bread according to the above directions. Spray one jelly roll pan for each loaf. After hand kneading dough, spread it out over the entire pan, like you would breadsticks. Score the dough in thirds the long way-don’t really cut it, just mark it. On the two outside parts, cut one inch strips from the middle to the outside. Place cream cheese mixture down the middle third. Top with the raspberry preserves or fresh raspberries. Then, use the side parts you have cut and fold them over each other to braid it. You don’t need to let this rise. Bake at 375` for 25-35 minutes, until golden brown.

Cinnamon Roll or Braided Bread Frosting

Mix together 2 cups powdered sugar, 1/4 cup softened butter, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and 2 tablespoon water. Brush over the top of your bread.
